If you are looking to buy a hot tub, or own one, you may be wondering about...
These are the most commonly asked hot tub questions, and we’re here to answer them!
How hot is a hot tub?
Every person is unique, and so are their hot tub temperature preferences! Almost all new hot tubs come with a programmable thermostat so you can heat to whatever temperature you want (within reason). The most common temperature setting is around 100-102 degrees. Some people like it hotter and go up to the maximum programmable heat of 104 degrees, while families with children or individuals with some health conditions may find a cooler heat of 95 degrees a bit more comfortable.
How do you keep a hot tub clean?
To maintain a hot tub, you’ll want to have a regular maintenance routine. This includes adding spa chemicals, cleaning the filters, and doing a quarterly scrub and water change. Have a look at our guide here for more info on keeping your spa clean and the water crystal clear.
How heavy is a hot tub? Hot tubs are insanely heavy! The weight of the individual hot tub will depend on the size of it and how full of water it is, but an average 2 person hot tub starts at around 500 pounds when empty. The more popular 6 person hot tubs weigh more around 1000 pounds empty - and up to 6000 pounds when full. It’s no wonder people have to hire cranes to have their hot tubs installed sometimes! Should I shower before or after using the hot tub? Usually it’s a good idea to shower before using the hot tub as most people have some sort of lotion, cream, or even just sweat on their skin, and any of those products or perspiration can put your water chemistry out of whack. Lots of people like to shower after the hot tub to cool down and rinse off as well! When can my friends use my new hot tub? Having a fluctuating amount of people in the spa can make it really hard to maintain clear, clean water with stable chemical levels. Once you’re comfortable with your water chemicals and maintenance routine, invite your friends over! Just keep an eye on your water chemistry for a couple days with chemical test strips after as levels may be unstable from the extra load. |

Should I use my hot tub after exercise?
Try using the hot tub before exercise to help get your blood moving and your muscles relaxed for the workout to come. Hot tubs can also be a great relief for sore, aching muscles after working out. Just make sure to take a break in between to let your heart and your muscles cool down and to rehydrate before jumping in the spa.
How long does a hot tub last with good care?
Hot tubs have a lifespan of anywhere from about 5-20 years, depending on the quality of the hot tub as well as care and maintenance. Less expensive hot tubs may be made out of less quality materials and wear down or require repairs sooner. If chemical levels and spa maintenance are poor or unstable, the life of the hot tub and its parts will also be drastically shorter. As mentioned earlier, even something as simple as showering before getting in your spa can help improve the longevity of it by reducing the build up of hair, beauty products and sweat particles in your spa lines and parts!
