The Waterway threaded buttress has 1-1/2" threads on one end and 1-1/2" finer MPT threads on the other end. The 1-1/2" buttress threads have an actual OD of 1-7/8". 1-1/2" Buttress thread only works with 1-1/2" buttress thread unions, not compatible with FPT fittings. MPT threads are finer and only fit on fits labeled with FPT threads of the same size. It's important to note that in the pool and hot tub industry, plumbing dimensions are referred to as nominal sizes rather than actual sizes.
